“The trouble with the most common outlets in most homes is poor design and cheap parts,” explains Pangea Audio Design Engineer, Jay Victor. “They are made from a cheap plastic that’s a poor insulator and from thin, low-grade metals. An ‘Overkill’ Outlet Insulator

“Another problem with standard AC wall receptacles is that they use a cheap nylon as an insulator in the outlets,” Jay explains. “From my years developing components for X-Ray equipment, I knew of an advanced polymer which has a much lower dielectric constant, making it a far better insulator. It also has a much higher voltage standoff. In fact, I’ve used it in X-Ray cable connectors that had to handle 250,000 volts.”

“Sure, 250,000-volt standoff capability may sound like overkill,” Jay admits. “But audiophiles would demand nothing but the best when it comes to supplying power to their sensitive audio gear. So that’s what I decided to use.”

Firmly Gripping Beryllium Copper Contacts

Another pet peeve that Jay has with standard AC outlets is that “almost all manufacturers use cheap thin brass for their AC contacts. Only a select few of those are even nickel plated to prevent corrosion in wet environments. This isn’t really an improvement. I believe that nickel plating is detrimental to performance.”
