Focal had a really difficult job bettering their renowned flagship, the Utopia 2020. Two years on, and there are some incremental upgrades that make this one of the best open-back dynamic headphones we sell. 

The Utopia 2022 has a slightly more informal, less stern look than the all-black 2020. A Focal logo sits over the voice coil cover, and there’s a splash of color, keeping the refined look, but just making it a little more accessible.

The sonic change is an improved voice coil that offers even more of that speed and detail that these headphones are rightly famous for. High-frequency response is smoothed out but with no loss of detail, and transient ability is better. 

Utopia is a reference high-fidelity headphone manufactured in France by Focal. They are the result of 35 years of innovation, development and manufacturing of high-end speaker drivers and loudspeakers. Utopia is unique they are the world’s first audiophile headphones to be equipped with totally open-backed full-range speaker drivers with pure Beryllium ’M’-shaped domes. They meet all the requirements expected of high-end headphones due to their sophisticated and elegant design and to purposeful materiality, such as the carbon fibre yoke and true lambskin leather ear cushion.
